Tech Support: Automatically update numeric characters in a footer in MS Word

Automatically update numeric characters in a footer in MS Word

Is there a way to have automatically modify a number in a footer of a document in MS Word?  i.e.;  If I have a document and make a change to the body of the document  I need to have the "version number" of the document to automatically updated in the footer
(from version 1 to version 2).  Is that possible?

Thanks!

Hi Jackie,
If you apply a unique Style (say a character Style named 'version') to the version number and us a STYLEREF field in the footer pointing to the 'version' Style, the number in the footer will update immediately you change it in the body of the document.
If
you want 'Revision' to appear in the footer as well, use a paragraph Style.
The STYLEREF field will then show 'Revision #'.
See Word's help file for more details.

How to Avoid Downloading Malware

Where are you getting the download?

There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.

Cancel or deny any automatic download

Some sites may automatically try start a download or give the appearance that something needs to be installed or updated before the site or video can be seen. Never accept or install anything from any site unless you know what is downloading.

Avoid advertisements on download pages

To help make money and pay for the bandwidth costs of supplying free the software, the final download page may have ads. Watch out for anything that looks like advertisements on the download page. Many advertisers try to trick viewers into clicking an ad with phrases like "Download Now", "Start Download", or "Continue" and that ad may open a separate download.
